Terry Wey, Countertenor

Terry Wey

Born in Bern, Switzerland in 1985, Terry joined the Vienna Boy’s Choir in 1994. He fast became the choir’s leading soloist and enjoyed numerous performances around the world including the Carnegie Hall, New York and Musikverien, Vienna under conductors such as Ricardo Muti and Claudio Abbado.Terry has won numerous solo singing competitions around Europe, most notably gaining 1st prize at the international Kärntner-Sparkasse competition in May 2005. Terry now sings for some of Europe’s finest early music ensembles, including the Clemencic Consort and Huelgas Ensemble, alongside pursuing a highly successful career as an opera soloist.

Jakob Huppmann, Countertenor

Jakob Huppmann

Born in Vienna, Jakob Huppmann started his singing career as a soloist with both the Mozart and Schubert Boy’s Choirs of Vienna. During this time he toured the world extensively and developed a keen interest in a variety of musical genres. Whilst studying at the Secondary School for Music in Vienna he discovered his love for early music. Alongside his Countertenor career he is also regularly engaged as a professional oboist. A founding member of Cinquecento Jakob is a specialist in reading early notation and now studies voice with Kai Wessel.


Thomas Künne, Tenor

Thomas Künne

Thomas Künne was born in 1965 in Thüringen, Germany. Having studied conducting in Weimar and being an artistic assistant at the University of Potsdam he moved to Vienna, where he studied Lied and Oratorio with Edith Mathis. Since moving to Vienna in 1993 Thomas has sung many operatic roles, as well as working at Vienna’s Burgtheater as a singer and actor. Regular collaborations with German director Einar Schleef culminated in 1999 with him playing the title role in The Golem of Bayreuth (Ulla Berkéwicz/Lesch Schmidt) at Vienna’s Akademietheater. Thomas sings professionally as both a tenor and countertenor with the ensembles Orpheon Consort, Clemencic Consort and Cinquecento, whilst continuing a solo career specialising in modern works and opera. He teaches at Vienna’s Singakademie and at the Musikschule, Hollabrunn.

Tore Tom Denys, Tenor

Tore Tom Denys

Born in Roeselare, Belgium in 1973, Tore Tom Denys started singing professionally, having already completed his Trumpet diploma at the University of Antwerp. A former member of the World Youth Choir, he has sung at some of the most prestigious European festivals with various ensembles, including Clemencic Consort, Ensemble Nova, Currende and L’Arpeggiata. Tore now divides his time professionally between the Belgian ensemble Capilla Flamenca, Cinquecento and the baroque consort vivante (first prize winner at the International Baroque Competition, Melk, 2005), which he founded in 2000.


Tim Scott Whiteley, Baritone

Tim Scott Whiteley

Born in York, England in 1980, Tim Scott Whiteley started his singing career as a chorister at York Minster. In 2000 he won a choral scholarship to Christ Church, Oxford, where he studied German and Linguistics. With Christ Church Cathedral Choir he toured the USA, recorded 7 CDs and performed in some of Britain’s finest concert halls. In 2004 Tim founded, directed and sang with the Oxford-based, Renaissance ensemble Cantores Aedis Christi. In September of the same year he moved to Vienna, Austria where he co-founded Cinquecento. He now sings with some of the world’s finest ensembles including Oxford Camerata (J.Summerly), Alamire (D.Skinner), Brabant Ensemble (S.Rice), The Tallis Scholars (P.Phillips) and Huelgas Ensemble (P.Van Nevel). Tim also collaborates regularly with the Viennese group Tyler as their chief lyricist.

Ulfried Staber, Bass

Ulfried Staber

Born in 1976 in Styria, Austria, Ulfried moved to Graz in 1995 where he studied music and music education. He studied singing with Elizabeth Batrice before completing his vocal training studies under Martin Klietmann with distinction. Whilst in Graz Ulfried discovered his love for polyphony and has sung with numerous vocal ensembles, including Domkantorei Graz, cantus, a piu voci and Capella Nova. As a soloist Ulfried has toured Germany, Austria and Italy performing Bach’s Passions and Cantatas. He is also to be found teaching at vocal workshops across Austria. A specialist in Baroque and Renaissance music Ulfried also works with the homeless at Austria’s charity outreach programme Caritas.
