Thomas Künne was born in 1965 in Thüringen, Germany. Having studied conducting in Weimar and being an artistic assistant at the University of Potsdam he moved to Vienna, where he studied Lied and Oratorio with Edith Mathis. Since moving to Vienna in 1993 Thomas has sung many operatic roles, as well as working at Vienna’s Burgtheater as a singer and actor. Regular collaborations with German director Einar Schleef culminated in 1999 with him playing the title role in The Golem of Bayreuth (Ulla Berkéwicz/Lesch Schmidt) at Vienna’s Akademietheater. Thomas sings professionally as both a tenor and countertenor with the ensembles Orpheon Consort, Clemencic Consort and Cinquecento, whilst continuing a solo career specialising in modern works and opera. He teaches at Vienna’s Singakademie and at the Musikschule, Hollabrunn.
